DC Mon directs officers to shut down outlets selling illegal lotteries

The Deputy Commissioner Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS has taken notice of lottery games like Shillong Teer, Nagaland Arrow, Raja Rani, etc. being sold in various towns within Mon District which is illegal and in contravention to the Lotteries (Regulation) Act 1998.

Therefore, the DC issued an order dated 14th June 2024 informing that any person engaged in the sale, distribution or purchasing of the tickets of such lotteries will be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fines or with both. Further, such offence shall be cognizable and non-bailable.

In view of the above, the Deputy Commissioner has directed all the Administrative Officers in Mon district to immediately conduct verification within their respective jurisdiction, in coordination with security agencies, and shut down all outlets where such illegal lotteries are being sold.

It further informed that the order has been issued in line with Finance Department Lottery Branch Letter No.FIN/LOT-05/2023/27 Dated Kohima the 1st May 2024.
