A Mega Trees Plantation Drive on World Environment Day commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the formation of Phek District was organized by the Chakhesang Public Organisation in collaboration with Phek District Administration and undertaken by the people of the district in their villages, roadsides, and the highways on Monday, DIPR stated.
During the Tree Plantation kick-off programme held at the DC’s Office compound, Deputy Commissioner Phek, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS acknowledged the CPO for making plantation drive a mass movement every year in the district and the participation of everyone to show their love and care for mother earth and also their commitment to bring change to the district.
He appreciated the responsibilities taken by the villages of the district to nurture the saplings and called upon all not to count the number of trees planted but to plant a sapling each and nurture it to maturity which is something people can give back to mother earth to counter the climatic change. The Deputy Commissioner mentioned that the plantation drive undertaken was for future generations and it was a way to show we care for our future generation.
President, Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), Vezuhu Keyho said CPO has taken up the Mega Tree Plantation Drive on World Environment Day to fulfil the resolution of the CPO and show its concern for bio-diversity, preservation of forests, and promote tree plantation amidst the environmental degradation and global warming. He stated that since the government has constructed good roads in the district, it was the duty of the people in the district to beautify the roads and highways and nurture the trees.
