DCLS meeting stakeholder sensitization held in Wokha

The District Committee for Lighthouse School (DCLS) under the NECTAR Project convened a meeting for stakeholder sensitization on January 27, 2025, at the DC Conference Hall in Wokha.

Chaired by Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Vineet Kumar IAS, the meeting centered on the upcoming construction of the Light House Complex (LCS). Joint Secretary and Deputy Project Director NEP – NECTAR, Avelü Ruho, provided an overview of the project’s inception, emphasizing its objective to enhance educational institutions in the state—particularly government schools struggling to meet quality standards. This lack of infrastructure and education quality disproportionately affects children and students from rural parts of the state, hindering their access to quality knowledge and education. Government Higher Secondary School Wokha  is selected as the center of excellence under the Project.

Ruho delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the project’s objectives, concept implementation, selection criteria for educational institutions, and the roles and responsibilities of the DCLS. She appealed to the district’s civil society organizations for their support and assistance in addressing any challenges arising during project execution.

Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar assured attendees of the administration’s complete support in addressing suggestions and queries related to the project.

Supported by the World Bank, the Department of School Education launched the ‘Nagaland Education Project – The Lighthouse – Nagaland Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resources (NECTAR)’, aiming to improve the quality and learning outcomes of government schools in Nagaland. This is the first-ever World Bank-financed education project in the north-east region of India to be directly implemented by a state government.

The NEP – The Lighthouse project aims to revitalize the state’s education system by providing greater opportunities for students and teachers to realize their potential. The project addresses significant challenges faced by Nagaland’s education system, evidenced by declining student learning outcomes as measured by the National Achievement Surveys (NAS).

The state government is committed to focusing its efforts on three targeted issues within a fixed project duration:

  • Enhancing the governance of schools across the state
  • Improving teaching practices.
  • Enhancing the overall learning environment.
