DDMA Chümoukedima issues advisory on well digging

Chümoukedima: Stop digging when well begin to crumble and show signs of collapse: DDMA

In view of the instances of casualties and injuries during digging of ring well in the district, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Chumoukedima issued the following advisories and precautionary measures for digging of well. These advisories are issued in the interest of public safety for compliance:

  1. The best time to dig a well is at the end of the dry season when the underground water level is at its lowest.
  2. Always have a helper nearby when digging, NEVER DIG ALONE.
  3. Wear harness when entering the well.
  4. Stop digging when the well begin to crumble and show signs of collapse.
  5. Cover the hole when digging is not in progress. This will prevent children or animals falling inside.
  6. The diameter of the Ring wall has to be 3 feet wide to ensure easy movement of the workers,
  7. In case of emergency or hazardous situation, contact the relevant authorities IMMEDIATELY or report to helpline number 8732093078.
