Dr SC Jamir, former chief minister of Nagaland, said on Tuesday that the delay in achieving final solution to the Naga political issue has become a mockery. He questioned the wait when everything had been sealed on 3rd August 2015 when NSCN IM formally signed the peace accord in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the then Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

“On that day they shook hands with each other, clapped their hands, showing total acceptance of what they have already done. So as far as political issues are concerned, they have sealed on that day,” Dr SC Jamir said. Why then the delay? he asked.

Mentioning that neither sovereignty nor integration are included in the agreement between the two parties as revealed at the Naga Reconciliation Meeting on 29th February 2012. He remarked that those who signed the agreement, especially NSCN IM, is feeling “shy” for assenting to drop flag, constitution and sovereignty.

Further, Dr SC Jamir said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah made the stand of the Government of India clear when he made a “very categorical statement” in the Parliament in December 2023 where he asserted that India has only one Prime Minister, only one Constitution and only one flag. Shah was making a reference to the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

So when everything is clear, why are they now delaying? he questioned.

The veteran Naga politician also stressed the need for younger generation of Nagas of Nagaland to learn about the history of the Naga struggle.
