Department of Mass Communication, NU Lumami releases fortnightly newspaper ‘The Communicator’

The Communicator, a fortnightly newspaper, of the Department of Mass Communication, Nagaland University, Lumami was officially released on May 29 by Limalenden Longkumer, Editor, Mokokchung Times.

According to a press release issued by the PRO of NU, the Chief Guest Limalenden Longkumer expressed his gratitude to the Department of Mass Communication for the opportunity to be part of the launch of the fortnightly newspaper, “The Communicator.” He commended the efforts of everyone involved in the publication and underscored the importance of the department’s work in shaping public opinion within a democratic society. Longkumer emphasized the significance of administrative and infrastructural support for the Department of Mass Communication at Nagaland University, highlighting the role of graduates in upholding democratic values and empowering citizens. Encouraging consistency and high-quality standards in the publication, he suggested registering with the Registrar of Newspapers for India and transitioning to a digital platform alongside print editions for broader reach. Addressing challenges in English composition within the community, he urged the exploration of solutions. Moreover, he touched upon the potential benefits and pitfalls of generative AI, emphasizing its role as a supportive tool rather than a replacement for human creativity. Longkumer concluded with well wishes for “The Communicator” to inspire and positively represent Nagaland University while redefining perceptions, extending his best wishes for the department’s future endeavors.

The programme chaired by Rongsenkumla Longkumer, began with a prayer by Salonger. This was followed by welcome speech from Arjun Das, Asst. Professor, Department of Mass Communication, Nagaland University. Prof. Wangshimenla Jamir, Head of the Department, Geography and Dean of Students Welfare, gave a short speech, and Kumjong, the Executive Editor, provided a brief note about the fortnightly newspaper.

The highlight of the event was the official release of “The Communicator,” by the Chief Guest, Limalenden Longkumer. The programme ended with a vote of thanks from Dr. Shivajyoti Das Baruah, Asst. Professor, Dept of Mass Communication, Nagaland University.
