The Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Nagaland, led by Hekani Jakhalu, MLA and Advisor, Industries and Commerce and P. Tokugha Sema, Director of Industries & Commerce hosted a significant meeting with a delegation from the Republic of Korea, led by Sang Woo Lim, Deputy Chief of Mission, at the Directorate of Industries & Commerce, Kohima on May 28. The meeting was also attended by other senior officials of the department.
The primary agenda of the meeting was to explore avenues for future collaboration between Nagaland and Korea in the fields of trade, investment, technology exchange and capacity building. The discussions focused on opportunities in sectors such as agro-processing, handicrafts, textiles, human resources development, logistics and sustainable industries—areas where Nagaland holds unique strengths and Korea offers advanced technology and market linkages. The importance of cultural and educational exchange was also emphasized, with particular interest in expanding Korean language education in Nagaland.
The Director of Industries and Commerce welcomed the delegation and expressed his enthusiasm for building meaningful partnerships that can foster economic development and create employment opportunities for the youth of Nagaland.

In her speech, Hekani Jakhalu emphasised about the State Government’s strong commitment to supporting investment and building partnerships. She highlighted that Nagaland has a lot of untapped potential in areas like agro-processing, handloom and handicrafts, organic farming, health sector and tourism. She stated that efforts can be made to attract both local and international partners, boost the economy, and create more job and skill-building opportunities for the youth of Nagaland.
Sang Woo Lim, Deputy Chief of Mission, appreciated the warm welcome and hospitable treatment extended to his delegation. He expressed his happiness and enthusiasm to be collaborating with the Government of Nagaland, and stated that if he were to invest in India, Nagaland would be his preferred choice. He further reiterated Korea’s strong interest in engaging with Northeast India, particularly Nagaland, for mutually beneficial partnerships. Highlighting Korea’s expertise in innovation and small and medium enterprise (SME) development and Human Resource Development, he emphasized how these strengths could complement Nagaland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Both sides agreed to initiate follow-up discussions to identify concrete projects and areas of collaboration. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthening ties and fostering people-to-people and institutional connections.
