Dept of Tenyidie, Nagaland University celebrates 25th year anniversary

The Department of Tenyidie, NU celebrated their 25th anniversary on 15 October at Ura Academy.

The Department of Tenyidie, Nagaland University celebrated its 25th anniversary on 15 October at Ura Academy, Kohima.

During the inaugural function, the president of Ura Academy Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu released the Jubilee Souvenir.

Liezietsu in his speech recalled the geneses of the Department and the efforts put into it by some of the elders of Ura Academy.

The older generation has high hopes and expectations for the students to carry forward with excellence the legacy planted by the elders, he told the students.

He further exhorted them to do more research and document the good traditional practices and Naga cultures on top of their studies.

The president of Ura Academy also wished the Tenyidie department well in its journey ahead.

At the programme, greetings were delivered by administrative in-charge of Nagaland University, Kohima Campus and dean of School of Education and Humanities, Prof Buno Zetsuvi.

The Tenyidie Department has produced about 300 post-graduates, 329 dissertations and seven PhDs, she informed.

Highlighting the courses provided, Zetsuvi also said the department was laying emphasis on language analysis and creative writings.

Retd Prof D Kuolie presented the history and significance of the Tenyidie department.

The Department of Tenyidie, through the initiative of Ura Academy was established in the year 1997 under Nagaland University. Tenyidie at the PG level was introduced with the primary objective to speed up the growth and development of Tenyidie literature and language.

For the Tenyidie language and literature to be studied methodically, the MA course uses a mix of English Literature and linguistics which serves as supporting disciplines towards the growth and production of Tenyidie literature.

The Ph D programme was further introduced in the year 2005.

The second session of the programme saw the Jubilee extravaganza which was celebrated with pomp and festive gaiety. The extravaganza presented a confluence of performing arts, literature, music, songs and a beautiful and educative display of Tenyimia costumes with corresponding narration of its significance and the meaning it carries.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Assistant Professor, Dept of Tenyidie, Dr Metuo Liezietsu. The welcome address was delivered by HoD, Dept of Tenyidie, Dr Petekhrienuo Sorhie.

The NU anthem which has been adapted into Tenyidie was sung by the MA students of the Department. The vote of thanks was proposed by Associate Professor Dr Mimi Kevichusa Ezung.
