The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) central youth organization held its joint consultative meeting 2024 at the NDPP central HQ’s Kohima on November 12.

In his address, Guest Speaker Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Chairman of IDAN, and Secretary General of the NDPP, stated that the party was formed in response to a widespread call for a new political force capable of bringing about societal change. “This demand reflected a desire for a new narrative, evidenced by the party’s consistent electoral victories and the mandate of the people,” said Metha implying that the party’s constitution is clear in its aspirations to promote justice, peace, and the development of the state.

Metha was of the view that the party’s manifesto resonated with the people, which is why Nagaland is currently governed without opposition. “This indicates that all political parties and leaders place their trust in the NDPP.  The party aims to achieve lasting peace in Nagaland and facilitate an early resolution to the Indo-Naga movement,” added Metha who expressed that the goal of the party reflected a commitment to ensuring transparent progress for the state of Nagaland.

With a vision to uphold Naga rights, the party was founded to foster progress through partnerships, asserted Metha, which is why the NDPP is a member of the NDA. He further claimed that visible progress can be seen among the youth, who have become brand ambassadors for the state by bringing accolades to Nagaland. “This is a testament to the support the government provides, and the changes and developments are reflected in these achievements. Nagaland is also making a name for India in the fields of music and sports,” asserted Metha. The Advisor also cited the Chief Minister’s initiative for health cards, which aims to ensure the health security of every Naga.

Metha also emphasized that the role of the party workers is to serve the people, unite, and bring individuals together regardless of their political party or tribe. The importance of overcoming tribalism to foster unity among the people of the state was further stressed. “The Youth should harness artificial intelligence and social media positively. It is  essential to be a responsible user of these platforms—fact-check information before sharing and avoid spreading negativity. Use social media for knowledge, education, and goodwill,” stated Metha.

Despite the challenges faced by the state, Metha opined that the youth are excelling. In this regard, he stated that the  NDPP youth organization serves as the talent pool for the party.

President Imchatoba Imchen delivered the presidential address. Brief speeches were also presented by Presidents Imtichoba from Tuensang Region youth organization, Amos Odyuo from Wokha Region youth organization, and Toshi Longkumer from Dimapur Region youth organization.

The program began with an invocation by Zakevi Kesen, Assistant Pastor, Rengma Baptist Church while General Secretary (Admin), Kehouneiu Theünuo, presented the general secretary’s report.
