Digital India talk show held in Kohima Science College Jotsoma

A digital India talk show was conducted at Kohima Science College Jotsoma (KSCJ) on June 17 under the “Digital India Initiative”, which aimed to provide students with an opportunity to engage with experts on key digital India initiatives such as DigiLocker, Cybersecurity, UMANG, ABC-NAD, MANAS etc.

Attended by the students and faculty of the college, the talk show was conducted in five sessions with four National e-Governance Division (NeGD) officials delivering the main talks. The team was led by Ajay Kumar, additional director NeGD team from Delhi. Prakash, head of the SeMT Nagaland, also accompanied the team, stated a press release.

The first session, presented by Prabhnoor Singh from NeGD began with an introduction to DigiLocker, a document wallet service provided by the government of India under the Digital India initiative. He stressed on the importance of Digilocker as a powerful tool to empower citizens by providing a secure, cloud-based platform for storing, sharing, and verifying important documents, thus promoting paperless governance and reducing reliance on physical documents. He explained the digital resource as a means of “joining the dots across e-governance ecosystem”.

Singh also spoke on UMANG or Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance, which is another digital platform developed to act as a source for unifying access to services provided by various central and state government departments, local bodies, and even some private organizations.

The NeGD official stated, “As more and more services in India move towards the digital space, an app like UMANG plays a critical role in unifying different sources and services to enhance accessibility.”

During the second session, a briefing on NAD-Digilocker was conducted by Zakie Angami who emphasized on the NAD-Digilocker flagship initiative of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY).

With a current total of 2953 academic institutions registered under NAD-Digilocker, the platform provides a safe and secure system where academic institutions can store and issue academic awards like degrees, diplomas, and mark sheets to students in a digital format.

The session also covered information on ABC (Academic Bank of Credits), a digital repository for academic credits earned by students at various higher education institutions, allowing them to accumulate, transfer, and redeem credits as they progress in their education. One of the resource persons, Priyanshu, delved on the topic of Cybersecurity, wherein he talked about necessary steps and strategies to stay aware about the different types of cyber fraud.

The fourth session was conducted on the Vivesyaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT, which aims to enhance the number of PhDs in Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) and IT/IC Enabled Services (IT/ITES) sectors in the country. The speaker also briefed the attendees on MANAS, an Anti-narcotics initiative through which ciitizens can report any drug-related crime, and seek help regarding rehabilitation and counselling using the MANAS portal.

The program was brought to a close with a session of the Digital India Quiz, where interaction took the centre stage as students participated in answering questions based on the talks delivered. Prizes were distributed to the winners.

The programme was led by Kritvi from NeGD, Delhi while the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Temjenwabang, Principal, Kohima Science College.

The Talk show ended with the vote of thanks which was pronounced by Dr. Lilongchem Thyug, coordinator IQAC, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma.
