World Malaria Day was observed at Dimapur district on Tuesday, where Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of District Task Force for Malaria Elimination, Sachin Jaiswal, IAS said that Dimapur was the only district in Nagaland where mosquito can be seen throughout the year. he therefore stressed the need to change to a cleaner environment and lifestyle, DIPR informed.
Jaiswal stated that malaria is a global concern however improvement was seen in the past few years, however cases have been declining in the district. He also urged the department to be more creative and give more awareness programmes.

A brief highlight of the programme was delivered by Peter Sangtam, District Vector Borne Disease, Consultant. He stated that the Elimination of Malaria is to be done in all blocks by 2027, interrupting indigenous transmission of malaria throughout the district and preventing the re-establishment of local transmission of malaria in an area where it has been eliminated, and maintaining District malaria-free status by 2030 and beyond.
Sangtam mentioned the activities undertaken during NVBDCP including early diagnosis and radical treatment, case-based surveillance like active surveillance, and SW surveys. ASHAs performed tests on individual with symptoms in the villages, passive surveillance, and the Patient visiting HUs were provided free testing and treatment and rapid response was initiated in an event of any occurrence of malaria cases, he added.
The best performing ASHAs in the district – Latika, Katoli, and Kughali Achumi – were felicitated at the programme held at the CMO conference hall.
