Dimapur DC urges GBs and colony chairmen to remain impartial for smooth conduct of ULB polls

The District level Coordination Committee under Dimapur District for peaceful conduct of Municipal/ Town Council Election 2024 was held at the DC’s Conference Hall, Dimapur on 18th June 2024, DIPR has informed.

Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, and Convenor of the committee, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, NCS, chaired the meeting. He requested the GBs/Chairmen to uphold the sanctity of their offices and to remain impartial towards different political parties, and to work conscientiously. Chang also stressed the importance of ensuring that the campaigning period is adhered to and requested the GBs to keep the administration informed of any issues, assisting in maintaining law and order.

He also requested the political parties to maintain decorum during canvassing to prevent any disturbances to the general public. The DC highlighted the need for cooperation between all parties to ensure that the elections are conducted smoothly and peacefully.

Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, IPS, requested the GBs/chairmen and political parties to work closely with the administration and the police so that the elections will be held peacefully. He also emphasized on the Dos and Don’ts of the guidance for candidates and political parties to be observed from the announcement of an election until the completion of the election process.

Returning Officer for Dimapur Municipal Council, W. Manpai Phom, speaking during the meeting, said that the municipal elections are being held after more than 20 years and there are lots of appreciation regarding the situation in Dimapur, therefore, he requested the candidates and political parties not to resort to unfair means. He requested the GBs and colony chairmen to work with clear conscious during the election and to be judicious and to uphold the position in the office.

Phom requested the GBs and chairmen to give equal opportunity to all the political parties. He also requested the GBs and chairmen to be the eye and ear of the government and to work together with the administration and to inform the authorities if there are any untoward incidents.

ADC & Returning Officer, East Dimapur Town Council, Mhalo Humtsoe, requested the political parties not to use single use plastic during the upcoming elections and instead opt for cloth banners and paper posters and not to put up the banners and posters in government properties. Humtsoe encouraged the GBs and colony chairmen to create a peaceful ambience in their respective colonies so that elections can be held peacefully.

She also informed that Voters Information Slip which contains the basic information of voting dates, time, polling stations etc will be sent to all the colonies within few days.

Members from Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Administrator, DMC, Additional Deputy Commissioner, HQ, 1(one) Representative each from Political Parties under Dimapur District, 1(one) Representative each of GB/Chairman from Dimapur Municipal Council and East Dimapur Town Council were present during the meeting
