The incessant rain inundated Dimapur with flood submerging several houses and affecting a large number of people. It is not the first instance that Dimapur, a flood prone district, has experienced flooding owing to unprecedented rainfall.
Following heavy rains between 31 July and 1 August this year, low lying areas of Dimapur experienced flooding. A local daily quoted the DC of Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel, as stating that 1500-1600 households in various areas of Dimapur and Chumukedima had been affected due to flooding. A leading cause of flooding is attributed to poor and improper drainage in the colonies.
