The Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union (DRSU) has affirmed its support to the “lawful and critical” initiative of Dimapur Naga Student Union (DNSU) to collect data on non-Naga residents in Dimapur to ensure proper implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regulations in the district.
Condemning the “recent obstruction and threats” received by DNSU, the Union stated that such acts of intimidation and interference are unacceptable and contrary to the principles of democratic engagement and dialogue. “The actions aimed at obstructing DNSU’s efforts not only undermine the legal framework but also pose a threat to the community’s safety and security,” it added.
The DRSU has also urged all concerned citizen to respect the rights and responsibilities of student organisations and to support their efforts in conducting their work without hindrance and appealed to the relevant authorities to take appropriate measures to ensure a safe and conducive environment for DNSU to carry out their data collection activities effectively.
It cautioned “those responsible for the obstruction and threats that their actions will not be tolerated and will be confronted with collective action by the wider Naga community” and said that DRSU will take all necessary measures to ensure that the ILP regulations are implemented effectively and that the Naga community is protected.
