Dimapur Sporting Club (DSC) lifted the prestigious Captain (Late) N Kengurüse, MVC Memorial Football Tournament trophy after defeating defending champions Headhunters FC (164 Naga TA) 2–1 in a thrilling grand finale played at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
The contest, marked by intensity and high tempo from the outset, saw Dimapur SC take command early on and sustain it through disciplined teamwork and sharp execution. The Dimapur side drew first blood just three minutes into the match when Ngansang converted a fine attacking move to give his team an early lead. Their dominance continued as Rhitso Mero found the net in the 11th minute, doubling the advantage and placing Headhunters on the back foot before the first quarter-hour.
Headhunters FC, renowned for their resilience and structured play, fought back after the restart with greater purpose. Their persistence paid off when Haotingmang reduced the deficit in the 55th minute, reigniting hopes of a comeback. Despite applying sustained pressure in the closing stages, the defending champions were unable to break through the resolute Dimapur defence, which stood firm to preserve their lead until the final whistle.
With this result, Dimapur SC completed a well-deserved title run, having showcased consistency and composure throughout the tournament. They had previously defeated Mavericks FC 2–0 in the quarterfinals and overcame Lüshe FC 2–1 in a gripping semifinal encounter to reach the final.
For Headhunters FC, who entered the competition as the reigning champions and tournament favourites, the defeat brought an end to a spirited campaign that included a dominant semifinal victory over Langsa Hill FC. Despite their late surge in the final, they could not overturn Dimapur’s early advantage.
