District Congress Committee, Mokokchung celebrates Tsüngremmung festival, gears up for upcoming parliamentary elections

Mokokchung: NPCC Prez says several applications received for parliamentary elections, screening team will scrutinize candidates soon

The District Congress Committee, Mokokchung celebrated the Tsüngremmung festival at Treasurer’s Residence, Alongmen Ward, Mokokchung Town on 3 August 2023.

During the celebration, the NPPC president and a former MLA, Supongmeren addressed the congress workers, urging them to work tirelessly for victory in the upcoming Parliamentary Election.

He emphasized that Congress’ working system will undergo a transformation moving away from hypocrisy and promoting straightforward communication. He said, ‘Those who cannot adhere to Congress’ discipline and principles should voluntarily step down, including himself.'”

The NPPC president stressed that positions in Congress should be embraced as an opportunity to work responsibly and diligently to elect an MLA from their respective Constituencies.

He urged unity within the party, stating that only by working together can the spirit of the party be achieved, especially in a region like Nagaland.

Regarding national politics, he compared the Congress and BJP, highlighting the Congress foundation’s alignment with secularism, liberalism, social democracy, civic nationalism, and Indian social liberalism, while the BJP’s foundation is rooted in RSS ideology.

In preparation for the parliamentary elections, he said that the Congress has set up a committee to identify a capable candidate who will represent the aspirations of the Naga people. “Several applications have been received, and the screening team will scrutinize the candidates soon,” Supongmeren informed.

The NPPC president instructed Congress workers to appoint polling level agents at every polling station and provide them with intensive training.

Congress’ former candidate, Bendangkokba, expressed that a strong grassroots foundation and work culture would enable the party to overcome any challenges and succeed, discouraging the practice of vote-selling during elections.

The event featured short speeches by P Senti Tzudir, PCC Member, 21 Tuli, Toshipokba, Former MLA & Ex-INC candidate, Moa Emchen, PCC member, 27 Mokokchung Town, Imkongyanger, PCC Member, 28 Koridang and Lanusanen, DCC executive member, emphasised the significance of the day.

The program was chaired by Watimongba Aier, President of DCC, with an invocation prayer by Rongsenla, President of DMCC, and a welcome address by Iminukshi, Treasurer of DCC. Special numbers were presented by DYC i/c President, DYC.
