The District Water Quality Testing Laboratory for Kohima district was inaugurated today by Shanavas C, IAS, DWSM chairman and Deputy Commissioner Kohima, at PHED Water Treatment Plant, Phezhu, Jotsoma.
The laboratory has been accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).
During the inaugural programme, the DC spoke on the side effects of different chemicals present in the water which are not only harmful to users but pose a threat for generations to come.
He further highlighted the benefits of the NABL laboratory. Remarking that people from other developed countries are cautious of what they drink, he told the gathering that they should also learn and implement that in their life.
Er Subongyanger, Urban Division Kohima Lab Head and Executive Engineer, stated that under Jal Jeevan Mission all the laboratories are to be NABL accredited and the infrastructure and processes of water testing laboratories should comply with NABL standards and protocols.
The accreditation will ensure a seamless improvement in terms of resources and competence of the laboratories in years to come, he said and added that it will help laboratories generate valid results and finally ensure that drinking water supplied in every household in rural and urban Nagaland is safe for consumption.
Er Subongyanger also mentioned the benefits of NABL for the people which, he said, brings an assurance of genuine reports from accurately calibrated testing, confidence in personal performance tests, elimination of the need for re-testing thereby saving money and time, satisfaction from the service provider, and better control of the laboratory operations and feedback.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Vibou Seyie. The invocation was pronounced by WATSAN chairman Vithato.
