Nagaland’s renowned band “Divine Connection” on November 10 released their music video, a hit single of the band “On my knees” at De Oriental Grand Kohima.
Speaking to media, frontman and lead vocalist, Obed Kath said that the release marked a significant milestone for the band, coming almost ten years after their last music video, “It’s Love,” which was featured on VH1. He shared that the audio version of On My Knees, released four months ago on YouTube, received an overwhelming response that encouraged the band to produce a music video despite earlier delays.
“This is our first single in a long while, and though we took our time, we’re excited to finally share it with everyone,” Kath said.
Now completing 22 years as a band, Kath noted that Divine Connection would celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2027, with plans to reach out to all districts of Nagaland through live performances and community engagements.
Recalling their early years, Kath spoke about the challenges they faced in the early 2000s when the local music scene was still in its infancy. “We faced skepticism and lacked proper facilities, but we were fortunate to take part in the first Hornbill National Rock Contest in 2005, where we finished as first runner-up,” he said. Following that, the band recorded its debut album El Roi, which received a strong response despite the technical limitations and lack of proper equipment at the time.
He added that today’s musicians are in a better position to promote their work with the help of technology. “Now everything is at your fingertips. Promoting your music is no longer as difficult as before,” he observed.
On whether a musician can sustain a livelihood solely through music, Kath said it was possible with hard work and dedication. “I’ve supported my family entirely through music for over 20 years. It depends on how committed and consistent one is toward their craft,” he said.
Sharing details about the production, guitarist Mhaseve Tetseo said the band collaborated with Sanan Sound Production, with Sanan directing the video. The video, he said, was shot at RCEMPA with support from TAFMA, which provided the venue, while the audio recording took place at Outloud Studio in Kohima, with technical assistance from Yevesa and his team.
Kath, who wrote On My Knees, explained that the song conveys a message of humility and faith. “It’s about coming to a point in life where you bow down and acknowledge God’s grace and love. We wanted to use this song to express our gratitude for the talents and blessings He has given us,” he said.
He further emphasized the need for improved infrastructure to support artists in Nagaland, noting that even in the state capital, creative production remains limited. “The lack of proper facilities continues to challenge musicians. The industry still needs to grow in that aspect,” he said.
Expressing deep appreciation to their supporters, Kath said the band’s fans have remained steadfast through the years, even during their seven to eight years of inactivity due to internal issues. “Some of our earliest fans have grown with us for two decades. Their love and loyalty kept us going,” he said.
