DLSAs in Nagaland observe Constitution Day

Along with the rest of the country, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in various districts of Nagaland observed the Constitution Day on November 26. A press release issued by the PRA NSLSA updated on the commemoration held in Longleng, Phek, Kiphire, Mon, Tuensang, Dimapur and Mokokchung.

Longleng

Longleng District Legal Services Authority (LDSA) celebrated Constitution Day with the students of Hill Top Hostel, Longleng, on November 26, 2025. The programme was chaired by L. Yingloi Phom, Panel Lawyer, who spoke about the importance of legal services. Advocate Chinge, the resource person, discussed Educational Rights, Child Labour, and Women’s Rights. Bongyei, Retainer Lawyer and resource person, explained the importance of the Indian Constitution, highlighting the Fundamental Rights and Duties. Chongpang Phom also attended the programme. It concluded with a vote of thanks, a mass prayer, and light refreshments.

Wokha

Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) Observed Constitution Day on November 26 at Wokha Police Station. Seyielenuo Mezhu, District and Sessions Judge/Chairperson WDLSA shared on the significance of the day while Sangthing Khiam, SDPO Wokha delivered welcome address. The pledge on preamble was led by Panel Lawyer Shanchobeni and the programme moderator was Shenti Simon C. Dr.Wonchano E enny , District Mission Coordinator and Thungbeni Kikon, Centre Administrator, Sakhi-OSC centre highlighted on Mission Shakti and Child Marriage.

This was followed by a signature campaign on child marriage and visitation/inspection of Wokha Police Station, Women Police Station Led by Chairperson WDLSA.

Mon

On November 26, the Mon District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mon, observed Constitution Day at Amanhong Baptist Church, Amanhong Village, Mon District, Nagaland.

The programme was chaired by Chumei Mercy Konyak, Asst. LADC, Mon. As part of the observance, the participants collectively recited and affirmed the Preamble of the Constitution of India, reaffirming their commitment to uphold its values and guiding principles. She also spoke on the evolution of the Indian Constitution and highlighted key Fundamental Rights such as Article 14 (Right to Equality), Article 19 (Freedom of Speech and Expression), Article 21 (Right to Life and Personal Liberty), and Article 32 (Right to Constitutional Remedies). She further emphasized the importance of constitutional awareness, fundamental duties, and the role of citizens in safeguarding democracy.

 

Wokono Yhoshü, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA Mon, explained the key provisions of the DAWN Scheme 2025. She stressed the growing impact of drug abuse on youth, leading to health complications, school dropout, family issues, and increased vulnerability to crime. She noted that drug-related offences are dealt with strictly under the NDPS Act, which prescribes severe punishment for the possession, trafficking, and consumption of prohibited substances. She also informed the participants about helplines 1933 (MANAS – National Narcotics Helpline) and 14446 (rehabilitation and counselling) for individuals seeking assistance and support.

Advocate Henlem P, Panel Lawyer, DLSA Mon, spoke on the important provisions of the POCSO Act and the Domestic Violence Act, 2005. She encouraged the community to seek legal aid, report offences without hesitation, and remain informed about the protections available to children and women under the law. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the successful completion of the observance and reaffirming the collective commitment towards constitutional values and legal awareness.

Phek

The Phek District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Phek, observed the 76th Constitution Day at GHSS Phek. The programme was chaired by  Muleku Sakha, PGT, GHSS Phek. Thomeweu, Panel Lawyer, Phek DLSA, highlighted the significance of observing Constitution Day. She emphasized that the day serves as a reminder to uphold the core constitutional values of Justice, Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, and Secularism. She further stressed the importance of the Fundamental Rights and Fundamental Duties, noting that the day reinforces the nation’s commitment to democracy, freedom, and good governance. Thukutalu Chizo, Panel Lawyer, Phek DLSA, spoke on Child Friendly Legal Services to Children and their Protection.” She sensitized the students on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, 2015, explaining its guiding principles and creating awareness about children in conflict with law and children in need of care and protection. She also elaborated on the roles of key bodies such as the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). In addition, she spoke on child labour laws and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, emphasizing that child marriage is a social evil, illegal, and a punishable offence. As part of the celebration, a Painting Competition was organized. The winners were, 1st Position: Vethalu Nienu, 2nd Position: Kenyile Seb, 3rd Position: Ozo Vero. The programme concluded with remarks from Keviwele Mera, PGT, GHSS Phek.

Kiphire

The Kiphire District Legal Services Authority organized a Slogan competition on November 26 on the theme “Constitution of India”. The first prize was secured by Rangcholipa of Zisaji Presidency College, second by Avithong L of Govt. Hr. Sec. School kiphire, third by Yutsali T Sangtam of ZPC. The five consolation winners included Richumla T Sangtam of Loyala Higher Secondary school, Rohit Kumar of Loyala Higher Secondary school, Yanglizi K Sangtam of ZPC, Tansukiu of GHSS and Asula K of GHSS respectively. The competition was organized to encourage students and to equip them with knowledge about the importance of Indian Constitution. Altogether there were eight winners who won cash prizes along with certificates.

Tuensang

As per the common action plan under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority, the Tuensang District Legal Services Authority observed Constitution Day with Court Staff, Tuensang Bar Association, PI staff and LADC staff at conference hall, District court complex. The program was chaired by Muthiam, front office PLV TDLSA. Kumdilong Kessen, NJS Secretary, Tuensang DLSA highlighted on the significance of Constitution Day and led the recitation of Preambles. P. Herola, Retainer Lawyer shared on the POSH Act followed by interaction session.

Mokokchung

The Constitution Day was observed on November 26 at the District Court, Mokokchung. The program was chaired by Molodongba PL while the significance of the day was delivered by LADC Chief Chubaangshi. Thereafter, the Preamble to the Constitution and the pledge to uphold the Constitution of India was led by Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, Julian Sithlou, and read out collectively in unison by all participants including the APP, panel lawyers, bar members, and District Court staff.

Zunheboto

The Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority(under the aegis of NALSA) ,observed and celebrated Constitution Day at Govt. Middle High School, New colony, Zunheboto. Easter H.Yepthomi, Retainer lawyer ZDLSA, spoke on the meaning and evolution of Constitution. She emphasized on the topic ‘Right to Education’ and encouraged the students to upskill their learning on the Celebration of Constitution Day, promote constitutional value, to understand their rights and fundamental duties. Constitution Day is celebrated on November 26 every year to commemorate the adoption of the constitution of India. To uphold the core principles of Constitution Day , the students, teachers and ZDLSA team actively participated and taking pleadge by reading the preamble of the constitution of India.

Dimapur

Dimapur DLSA celebrated Constitution Day with the students of Government High School, Naharbari. The programme was chaired by PL Tonika Shohe and as part of the observance, all participants—including teachers, students, and resource persons—collectively read and pledged to uphold the Constitution of India, reaffirming commitment to its values and guiding principles. PL Kiyekali spoke on the topic- Fundamental Rights and duties safeguarding the dignity of every citizen and PL Moatila addressed the students on digital rights and privacy under the Constitution, focusing on responsible digital behaviour and the constitutional guarantee of the right to privacy.
