DLSAs organize legal awareness events across Nagaland on Children’s Day 2024

Kohima: Children encouraged to speak up if they face any kind of abuse, made aware of their rights

The District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under the aegis of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) organized legal awareness programmes to commemorate Children’s Day (14th November 2024, a press release from PRA, NSLSA, informed.

Tuensang:

The Tuensang DLSA celebrated Children’s Day with Government Primary School, Upper Khel Tuensang Village, C/ Khel, where Herola, Panel Lawyer Tuensang DLSA spoke on the significance of Children’s Day and Antimangyang Chang, Retainer Lawyer, Tuensang DLSA, dwelled on sexual abuse offences and rights of victims. The program was attended by students and Teaching staff.

Longleng:

The Longleng DLSA observed Children’s Day at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalaya (KGBV) at Namching Village with 30 students.

A Mane Phom, Retainer Lawyer shared the message emphasizing the importance of “Right of children to free and compulsory Education” and also addressed the basic rights of a child.

Zunheboto:

The Zunheboto DLSA celebrated children’s day with the children of Mt. Carmel Home at Sukhalu Village. Cheliam Khiamniungan, JMFC/Secretary, Zunheboto DLSA, shared the history and significance of Children’s Day and highlighted the basic rights of the Children with emphasis on education.

Tovi Z Yeptho, Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel, educated the children what child abuse is and also gave awareness about the good and bad touch. He further encouraged them to speak up if they face any kind of abuse and that the law is always there to protect them.

The children participated by reciting several Bible verses and presented a special number.

Mon:

The Mon DLSA commemorated Children’s Day in collaboration with Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Mon with over 600 children from class 11 and 12.

B. Peter Resu, Chief Judicial Magistrate/Secretary, Mon DLSA, spoke on Right to Information Act (RTI), 2005 emphasizing the need for transparency and significance of understanding legal and constitutional rights. He also guided the students through the step-by-step process of filing RTI applications and also the appeal process.

Angun Konyak enlightened the audience about the initiatives and activities of the District Legal Services Authority and shed light on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. Shonwang Konyak, Additional Public Prosecutor, elaborated on the legal rights of individuals.

Wokha:

The Wokha DLSA visited Special Juvenile Police Unit at Wokha Police Station. Nino Iralu, Chairperson, WDLSA, spoke on the various Acts relating to children and its execution. A child friendly attitude and a friendly corner is a call today for those children in conflict with law and those in need of care and protection, she stated.

Gunlinlan Tungning, OC, Wokha Police Station, welcome the DLSA team. Panel Lawyers Shanchobeni P Lotha, Jacob Kikon and PLVs also participated in the programme and highlighted on the NALSA helpline number 15100, Childline number 1098 and Women helpline number 181.

Dimapur:

 

The Dimapur DLSA observed Pre Children’s Day on 9th November 2024 on the theme Inclusion for every child at AV Hall, Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur Hall. Secretary, Department of Social Welfare, Martha R. Ritse, IAS was the special guest.

Panel lawyer Moatila Ao highlighted about Legal Services Authority and spoke on POCSO Act. The programme was jointly organised by DDLSA, District Administration and various NGOs. Students and children from different schools, homes and institutes attended the celebration.

Kohima:

The Kohima DLSA visited Destitute Home, Keziekie, headed by its Secretary cum Chief Judicial Magistrate, Wokono Yhoshü. A short briefing of Child Rights like Right to Life, right to Education, Right to Food, Right to Protection and Right to Health-Mental Health was delivered by Nulhuvolu Rhakho, Panel Lawyer, KDLSA. This was followed by screening of video clips about Child Rights to the members at Destitute Home.

Secretary, KDLSA, Wokono Yhoshü appraised the children to perform their basic duties with hard work, patience and perseverance. The program was also attended by Vilezonuo, Wonchano, Panel Lawyers of KDLSA and 1 PLV.

Mokokchung:

The Mokokchung DLSA celebrated Children’s Day at an orphanage in Shihaphumi village. During the event, Panel Lawyer Mapujungla addressed several important topics, including bullying, the concepts of good touch and bad touch, as well as children’s rights. Watitemjen, a Retainer Lawyer, along with PLVs also participated in the celebration.
