The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed deep concern regarding the delayed distribution of essential school supplies, specifically notebooks and uniforms, to government schools within its jurisdiction. The delay, according to the Union, is severely impacting the academic progress of students, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

“We understand the importance of timely delivery of these supplies for the smooth functioning of the academic year. The persistent delay not only disrupts the learning process but also undermines the fundamental right to education,” stated the DNSU in a press release.

In this regard, it has urgently appealed to the concerned department and contractors to expedite the release of notebooks and uniforms to the government schools. The DNSU requested the following actions:

1. Immediate release of supplies: Prioritize the immediate delivery of all pending notebooks and uniforms to the respective schools.
2. Investigation and action: Conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the delay. Identify and take strict action against any erring suppliers or contractors responsible for the disruption.
3. Transparency and accountability: Ensure transparency in the distribution process and hold those accountable for any further delays.
4. Future preparedness: Implement measures to prevent such delays in the future, ensuring timely delivery of supplies for subsequent academic years.

The Union has also appealed to educational institutions to stop the exorbitant Transfer Certificate fees and adhere to the RTE Act.

Having received numerous complaints regarding educational institutions charging exorbitant fees for the issuance of transfer certificates, the Union reminded that the practice is a clear violation of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. Under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, specifically sections concerning the right to free and compulsory education, charging exorbitant fees for transfer certificates creates an unnecessary financial burden on students and their families, hindering their access to continued education, highlighted the Union.

It appealed to all educational institutions to:

1. Cease exorbitant fees: Immediately cease the practice of charging exorbitant fees for transfer certificates.
2. Adhere to RTE Act: Adhere strictly to the provisions of the RTE Act, 2009, ensuring that transfer certificates are issued without imposing undue financial burdens.
3. Transparent fee structure: Implement a transparent fee structure for all administrative procedures, ensuring fairness and accessibility.

“The DNSU remains committed to ensuring that all students in Dimapur have access to quality education. We urge the concerned department, contractors, and educational institutions to take immediate and decisive action to address these pressing issues. We are prepared to extend our full cooperation in resolving these matters. We expect a prompt response and concrete actions to be taken,” stated the Union.
