The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed concern over complaints received from students and parents regarding certain educational institutions charging high fees for reappearing in failed subjects during model tests and other internal examinations.

Stating that the Union recognizes institutions may levy reasonable and nominal re- examination fees for administrative purposes, it said reports indicate that some institutions are collecting amounts ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 per subject, which are reportedly refundable upon successfully clearing the examination.

Institutions have justified the practice as a measure to encourage academic seriousness among students, it added.

DNSU acknowledged the importance of maintaining academic discipline; however, it emphasized that student motivation should not result in financial strain on parents and guardians.

The Union stated that academic improvement should be encouraged through constructive and student-friendly approaches rather than financial pressure.

DNSU appealed to all concerned institutions to review and rationalize such fee structures and ensure fair and reasonable practices. The Union further stated that it would continue to monitor the matter to safeguard the interests of students and parents.
