The Dimapur Naga Students Union (DNSU) has reiterated its demand for relocation of the sub centre set up by the Department of Health & Family Welfare at the premises of Government Middle Schook, Midland, Dimapur.

In its press release issued on 7th November 2024, the DNSU has expressed disappointment to learn that the Colony Council and the Department are mulling to convert the building premises into a fully fledged sub centre. “The location of a health institution within the premises of educational institution poses a grave threat both to the health of the students and the teachers”, it stated.

Further, it mentioned the following points for public consumption:

  1. “The officials of DNS visited the GMS Midland on 25th September 2024 and verified that the School has obtained the patta of the land where the school building is presently standing basing on the Gift Deed from the donors namely, 1. Bhupen Paira, 2. Mohan Paira and 3. Kumar Paira, all sons of Late. Gopinath Paira and that, the Land legally belongs to the School and no other entity or groups can claim ownership to the said land.
  2. The office of the DNS Is aware of the official order issued by the Principal Director, School Education on 5th July, 2024 directing the medical department to immediately vacate the School building. But till date, this order has not been complied with and the medical department continues to occupy the building illegally as verified by the officials of DNSU on 06-11-2024.
  3. The office of the DNS is dismayed and utterly shocked by the fact that the department of School Education is unable to protect its properties and resources from wanton encroachments and infringements from people with vested interests to obtain Government contracts from multiple departments by showing the same building to all the departments a number of times to show that the contract works have been executed.
  4. During our visit to the School, it came to the knowledge of DNSU that the Midland Council has been illegally occupying the office of Midland Council continuously for two decades without holding public meeting for even a single time, which is illegal and outrageous for a civilized democratic society. We demand the Deputy Commissioner to immediately dissolve the present Midland Council and a new team be democratically elected by the residents of Midland.
  5. The office of the DNS is shocked to learn that the medical department started its dispensary on the first floor of the School building in the year 2011, provided by the Midland Council measuring 35×26 which was not even the property of the Midland Council. Here, the modus operandi of the officials of medical department is questionable as the co-existence of medical facility in the School premises is untenable and should be justified by the medical department and the Midland Council.”

While expressing optismism to learn that MLS Moatoshu Longkumer “has also taken a keen interest into this issue”, the DNSU has appealed all right thinking citizens of Dimapur and especially the residents of Midland Colony to come together and resolve the matter.

The student body has said that the student community would resort to take “further legal and democratic action” if the concerned authorities fail to resolve this matter within a week. The DNSU further said that it would hold the Midland Council and Administrator responsible for any consequences.
