The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has appealed to schools and education authorities to ensure that students are not put in situations where their well-being is at risk during Teachers’ Day celebrations.
In a statement issued today, the Union said it has received reports of students being asked to sell badges or tokens outside their schools in order to recover nominal amounts collected for Teachers’ Day programmes.
DNSU noted that such practices, particularly in current hot weather, places “an unnecessary burden on students and compromise their comfort and dignity.”
Reiterating its support for meaningful celebrations to appreciate teachers, the Union stressed that Teachers’ Day should remain “a celebration of respect and gratitude, not a source of stress or obligation for students.”
It appealed to the school administration to avoid assigning token-selling duties to students and to explore safer, more inclusive ways to celebrate the occasion.

It also urged the education authorities to review the process of this collection to ensure that it does not unintentionally lead to hardships for students or schools.
The Union also encouraged parents and public to report any instance where students are made to sell tokens so that such concerns can be addressed “promptly and constructively”.
DNSU further reiterated its commitment to student welfare and dignity and hoped that this Teachers’ Day will be celebrated in the true spirit of “appreciation and unity”.
