The President of India has appointed eminent journalist Dr Samudra Gupta Kashyap as the new Chancellor of Nagaland University on the recommendation of the Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, Government of India.

An alumnus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Delhi, Dr Samudra Gupta Kashyap had served as a journalist since 1980’s. He is recognized for his immense contribution in projecting the North east region in the right perspective to the outside world and has won several awards for his unbiased and analytic works.

The noted journalist worked with Assamese magazine Prantik, Assamese newspaper Dainik Asam and The Indian Express.

He is also the author and co-author of over a dozen books in English and Assamese. Besides, Dr Kashyap is also an articulate speaker and is much sought by institutions.

Dr Samudra Gupta Kashyap served as the State Information Commissioner of Assam Government from 2020 until earlier this month.

His term as Chancellor of Nagaland University is for five years.
