In a gripping semi-final-2 clash at the ongoing Dr. Talimeren Ao Junior Girls’ National Football Championship at Chümoukedima, Maharashtra on Saturday delivered a composed act to defeat Punjab 2–0 and secure their place in the final which is scheduled to be held on December 11.

The match showcased strong tactical execution from both sides but Maharashtra’s clinical finish ultimately proved superior. The first half unfolded with both teams matching each other stride for stride. Possession remained nearly even—Punjab holding 48% to Maharashtra’s 52%—reflecting a midfield battle marked by resilience rather than creativity.

Punjab recorded 7 shots on target, but Maharashtra’s backline and goalkeeper stood firm, ensuring the North Indian side could not convert their chances. Maharashtra, too, registered 7 shots on target, but the Punjab custodian kept her side in contention with crucial interventions. With each side probing cautiously and neither willing to take reckless risks, the match headed into halftime locked at 0–0. The second half witnessed Maharashtra transforming their tempo, pressing higher and stretching Punjab’s defensive structure.

Punjab, despite their early control, began conceding more space on the flanks, allowing Maharashtra’s attackers to exploit gaps. The breakthrough for team Maharashtra finally arrived in the 69th minute, when Sharvari (Jersey No. 10) found herself in the right place at the right moment, drawing loud cheers from the Maharashtra bench and supporters.

As Punjab pushed forward in search of an equaliser, Maharashtra capitalised again. In the 81st minute, Aarna (Jersey No. 11) doubled the lead with a composed heading, sealing the match and crushing Punjab’s hopes of a comeback.

With the win, Maharashtra will advance to the final, where they will face the winners of Semi-Final 1.
