Driver injured in dao attack on Naga-bound passenger vehicle at Jorhat Bypass

A passenger vehicle (Traveler) carrying 10 people en route from Kohima to Mon in Nagaland was attacked by two unknown miscreants on the Jorhat Bypass Highway on Thursday around noon.

According to an FIR lodged at Jorhat Police Station by the passengers, the assailants approached the vehicle from behind and suddenly struck the driver with a machete (dao), injuring him on the head. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the assault.

Passengers inside the vehicle recorded the attack on their mobile phones and later submitted the video footage to the police as evidence.

The occupants said they had no prior knowledge of any dispute and were unaware of the motive behind the attack. The shaken passengers voiced serious concerns over public safety and security on the busy bypass, urging the police and district administration to conduct a thorough and time-bound investigation.

They also demanded swift action against the offenders and stronger security measures to ensure the safety of commuters traveling on the same route.

The injured driver is receiving medical treatment, while police have launched a probe into the incident.
