The Department of School Education (DSE), Government of Nagaland has issued a notification for the closure of 34 Government Primary Schools (GPS) and Government Middle Schools (GMS) citing zero enrolment and non functioning.

In a notification issued by Kevileno Angami, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Nagaland on January 20, the decision and approval  was made following the State Level Education Committee (SLEC) meeting held on December 19, 2025, “based on the physical verification report of zero enrolment/non-functioning of the schools furnished by the Departmental Officers”.

The closure of schools will come into effect from the academic session 2026-27.
