District Tobacco Control Cell, NTCP Mon organized World No Tobacco Day program on Wednesday at Conference Hall, District Hospital Mon with the theme “We Need Food, Not Tobacco”. Deputy Commissioner Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS was the special guest on the occasion, DIPR stated.
DC Verma, in his speech, said that it is the responsibility of all to create a tobacco-free society, therefore he requested all responsible citizens to cooperate to have a tobacco-free society. He also launched the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign at the event.
Dr. Imlienla, Mo (F.I.A.R.T.C) Mon, the theme Speaker, briefed the presentation on the evil effects of Tobacco in one’s life and also in society. She highlighted that the 2023 global campaign aims to raise awareness about alternative crop production and marketing opportunities for tobacco farmers. She said the state does not cultivate tobacco but directly or indirectly people are encouraging tobacco cultivation by spending lots of money on buying tobacco products as well as its related diseases rather than spending money on buying healthy food products. Therefore, she urged all to cooperate to stop the use of tobacco products and discourage tobacco cultivation so that more food cultivation will be encouraged to have a healthy universe.
E. Nyeamying Konyak, District Consultant, DTCC, Mon said that earlier there were 18 Tobacco Free Schools in Mon town and this time five new schools were declared Tobacco Free Schools and certificates were handed over to the school representatives.
The result of the Poster Competition which was held on Tuesday on account of World No Tobacco Day was declared and the winners were 1st – DBS Mon, 2nd – GHSS, and 3rd – St. Mary School.
