For Parmod Sha, originally from Bihar and residing in Dimapur for the past 20 years, Durga Puja is more than just a festival—it is a celebration of family, love, and togetherness. Parmod, who has been driving an auto for his livelihood since arriving in Dimapur at the age of 21, reflects on his journey in the city.

After a long and tiring day of work, Parmod parks his auto by the roadside and enjoys a simple meal of “Chole Bhatura” with his youngest daughter Shivani Kumari and her cousin Renu Kumari. Despite the challenges of being a migrant worker, Parmod finds solace in the warmth of his family and the city that he now calls home.

Reflecting on his two-decade journey in Dimapur, Parmod expresses a deep connection to the city. “Dimapur feels like home now. It’s much better than it was 20 years ago. People show us love and respect today, unlike the early days when we were looked down upon,” he says, a sense of gratitude in his voice.

His daughter, Shivani, beams with pride when speaking about her father. “My father is the world to me. He does everything to provide the best education for me and my brothers,” she says, her eyes shining with affection. Parmod’s work as an auto driver has sustained the family, but it is his love and dedication that have shaped their lives. Shivani also speaks fondly of her mother, who supports the family by cooking and caring for them.

As for festival gifts, Shivani simply smiles and says, “I will happily take whatever my father gives me.” Parmod, with a gentle smile, reveals his plans: “I will gift them tomorrow because that is the main day of the festival. Today we are keeping it simple, but tomorrow we will have a special dish.”

Durga Puja for Parmod’s family is not just about celebrations, but about honoring the love and bond they share. For this family, the festival serves as a reminder of the strength they draw from one another, and the home they have built together in Dimapur.
