The District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) Tuensang meeting cum observation of World Toilet Day 2024 under the theme “My Toilet; My Pride” was held at DC’s Conference Hall Tuensang on 19th November 2024, under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, NCS.
E.E PHED Tuensang, Er. Kedolhuto Punyu said that the objective of Jal Jevan Mission (JJM) is to connect safe drinking water tap to every rural households, by March 2025, and also to provide water tap in all the schools, Anganwadi Centers and Health Centers. He also highlighted on the progress of JJM in the district. He also shared the difficulties and challenges faced during the implementation of the programme.
He further said that Nagaland achieved Open Defecation Free (ODF) in the year 2019. The Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) SBM (G) Phase 11 (ODF Plus) is focused on providing intervention for safe management of solid and liquid waste, by providing safe toilet access and solid disposal system and to sustain the ODF Plus status by 2025.

District Co-ordinator, Fairyson presented the achievement under JJM at Tuensang, Noklak and Shamator district as 90%, 95%, and 98% respectively, and under SBM (G). He informed that currently Tuensang has 32 ODF Plus Model village from 62 village. Noklak has 20 ODF Plus Model village from 50 village and Shamator has 23 ODF Plus Model village from 30 village.
DC and chairman of DWSM, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa urged all the convergence department to co-ordinate, co-operate and work together for the successful implementation of JJM and SBM (G) in the district to achieve 100% target within the time period.
On the occasion of World Toilet Day, Rutsa appealed to the concerned department to build more community toilet, which will be accessible for People With Disabilities (PWDs), and also to make it convenient for the elderly people.
