Dy CM Patton unveils New Mokokchung SP Office Building; calls for cooperation in tackling drug menace, illegal immigration

Mokokchung: Patton acknowledges efforts of students’ bodies, civil society, NGOs in preventing infiltration of illegal immigrants

Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister (Home & Border Affairs), Yanthungo Patton inaugurated the much-awaited new office building of the Superintendent of Police Mokokchung on Wednesday at Mokokchung Village Compound, Nagaland.

During his address, Deputy CM Patton expressed his gratitude to Mokokchung village for providing the land to construct the SP Mokokchung Office and the adjacent DIG Range Office. He emphasized the need for more parking spaces within the office premises and humbly requested the Mokokchung Village Council and leaders to allocate additional land for this purpose.

Patton stressed the importance of cooperation and support from the public for law enforcement agencies to effectively maintain law and order.  He urged the public to collaborate with the police in tackling the alarming issue of drug addiction in the region. Notably, Patton highlighted the menace of drug peddling. Patton said that as per a record the highest drug peddler in Nagaland is Wokha followed by Mokokchung, However, he did not mention that it was an official report.

In this connection, he sought cooperation from the public to tackle this menace of drug addiction in our society and address this challenge responsibly and cautioned that the public should not take law in their own hand but should be handed over to the incumbent authority for necessary actions.

Touching on the issue of illegal immigration, Patton lauded Mokokchung District as the only district in Nagaland without illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. He acknowledged the efforts of students’ bodies, civil society, and NGOs in preventing the infiltration of illegal immigrants into the region. Patton warned against complacency, cautioning that failure to address this issue may lead to a situation similar to that in Tripura, where indigenous people have become a minority.

The SP Office, with an impressive plinth area of 3073.10 sq.ft., was constructed over four years and was completed in April 2020. The project was estimated to cost INR 2,16,32,900.

SP Manojkumar A, IPS, in his welcome address, expressed his gratitude for the improved infrastructure and promised to serve the people and society with utmost dedication.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed short speeches from Minister Metsubo Jamir and Renchamo P Kikon IPS ADGP (Administration), adding to the joyous occasion.
