Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, accompanied by MLA and advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election Tovihoto Ayemi, Deputy Commissioners (DC) of Chumoukedima and Niuland, along with officials of the district administration, NSDMA, Urban and Municipal Affairs, Water Resources, Home Department and others visited flood-affected areas in the region on July 12 to assess the ongoing restoration efforts and address public grievances.
After visiting the 10 flooded areas in Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Niuland areas, the Dy CM briefed the media, stating that it was unfortunate to see the extent of damage that has been caused. Patton gave directives to the administration and police to put up a comprehensive report to the government so that it can be discussed in the state cabinet. He assured to “do the needful” in the affected areas after getting a detailed report.
He appealed to all encroachers to remove their structures that are obstructing the drainage system.

Patton also pointed out direction was already given to the council members too, and authorities will take up the task accordingly to what they can take up or do.
The Dy CM also reviewed the progress of ongoing works and also interacted with the local residents and officials in-charge. He assured that the removal of debris from the link roads will be taken up as a priority. He further instructed the officials in-charge to prioritize the restoration and discussed their flood management preparation.
District administration and NSDMA officials further informed that, they have given out the immediate relief fund, and the overall report of the damage assessment will be submitted soon to the government.
