Dzükou fire completely contained, Valley reopened for trekking: SAYO

The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) has announced the reopening of trekking activities to Dzükou Valley following the wildfire incident that affected the valley for nearly 25 days.

After a thorough assessment conducted by SAYO volunteers, in coordination with concerned authorities and supported by aerial inspection through helicopter services, it has been confirmed that the fire has been completely contained. “The valley is now considered safe for trekking, and necessary precautions have been put in place to ensure the safety of visitors,” stated SAYO in a notification issued on February 19. While it deeply regretted the wildfire’s extensive damage on the valley’s natural flora, fauna, and wildlife habitat, the Organisation expressed hope for ecological recovery. “Nature, in its resilience, promises renewal, and the anticipated sprouting of the seasonal wildflowers for which Dzükou valley is well known for,” it expressed.

The Organisation also strongly reiterated on the implementation of the October 1, 2025 decision where a local tourist guide is made mandatory for trekking to Dzükou valley.

“Trekkers who don’t abide to this guideline will not be allowed to enter the Valley under any circumstances,” cautioned the organisation. It also remindes the public that trekking after 03:00 PM during winter (October-March) and 04:00 PM during Summer (April-September) is prohibited and will be implemented till date.

“While the Office looks forward to the continued cooperation of the public in preserving and safeguarding the valley, it also extends its sincere gratitude to all agencies, volunteers, and well-wishers who worked tirelessly to contain the wildfire and restore safe access to Dzükou Valley,” expressed SAYO.
