East Zone clinch thrilling 6-run victory over South Zone in Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 Trophy

In a closely fought contest, East Zone held their nerve to edge past South Zone by 6 runs in the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 Trophy at the Nagaland Cricket Ground, Sovima. A combined team effort with both bat and ball saw East Zone defend their total in the final over of the match.

East Zone – Innings: 158/4 in 20.0 overs

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, East Zone posted a strong total of 158/4. T Sarkar led from the front with a confident 40 off 32 balls, while Tanmayee Behera (39 off 26) and Dhara Gujjar (31 off 19) provided crucial middle-order momentum. Their balanced batting display ensured a competitive target for South Zone.

Among the bowlers, Sahana S Pawar stood out for South Zone with figures of 2/21 in 4 overs, maintaining pressure through her disciplined spell.

South Zone – Innings: 152/6 in 20.0 overs

Chasing 159, South Zone’s innings was anchored by a superb unbeaten 54 off 41 balls from Niki Prasad, who kept her side in the hunt till the very end. However, timely breakthroughs by East Zone’s bowlers ensured that the chase fell just short. Mamta Paswan, who delivered under pressure, finished with 2/21 in 4 overs, earning her the Player of the Match award for her match-winning spell.

Saika Ishaque also contributed significantly, taking 3/39 in 4 overs to stall South Zone’s momentum in the middle overs.
