The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has condoled the demise of late Kejong Chang, former member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly and Minister who hailed from Hakchang Village, Tuensang District.
Conveying condolences to the bereaved family, the Federation stated that late Chang had “lived to the fullest of lives with distinctive enigma leaving a legacy of longevity in Eastern Naga socio-political epoch and a political patriarch with a distinct acumen who have shrewd his best gesture on motivating and edifying for the cause of Eastern brethren.” May his legacy continue to inspire and guide the people of Eastern Nagaland in particular and the Nagas in general, it added.
The ENSF sketched a brief biography of late Kejong Chang where it mentioned that he was first appointed as interpreter (Dobashi) for Tuensang Frontier Agency under North East Frontier Agency (NEFA) on 6th June 1949 and later appointed as Honorary Captain of the newly Constitute Village Guard Organization in 1957. He was also appointed as Head Interpreter for Fight Years and was promoted to 2-d class Political Assistance to the Deputy Commissioner for seventeen long years. He retired from service in June 1991, after serving for forty-two years and even after retirement; he was reinstated as Advisor to the Government of Nagaland for three years (1991-1993).
During his career, he received Four Governor’s Commendation Certificate; One Medal; One Pistol; and one twelve-bore cartridge.
The ENSF also highlighted that late Chang was a prominent figure in Naga Politics representing Tuensang Sadar-Il in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, getting elected as MLA six times. It stated that late Kejong Chang demonstrated unwavering dedication and undying legacy to public service during his terms as MLA and that his leadership and commitment to the people of Eastern Nagaland and Nagas in general will have an everlasting impact.
