The emergency consultative meeting convened by the Eastern Nagaland Gazetted Officers’ Association (ENGOA) at Dimapur today with Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO), Eastern Nagaland Legislature’s Union (ENLU), Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF), and Eastern Nagaland Women’s Organisation (ENWO) unanimously decided not the accept the draft proposal of Memorandum of Settlement (MoS).

It has been learnt that the Talk Team and the eight tribal apex bodies did not attend the meeting.

ENLU Secretary, MLA Lima Onen Chang informed that the house had a thorough consultation and after taking views of the ENPO and its frontal organizations, it decided not to accept the draft proposal of MoS.

Mentioning that the Nagaland Legislative Assembly’s (NLA) recommendation for creation of an Autonomous Council for the Eastern region was rejected by ENPO in 2011, Chang said point number two of the basic principles of the draft MoS which says, “spirit of Article 371(A) (Regional Council System) and State Government’s recommendation for Autonomous Council or authority to be maintained,” is the same language for creation of an autonomous council which was rejected by the people earlier also.

Since major part of the draft speaks of autonomous council, Chang said “we will not accept that kind of standard.”

Meanwhile, ENPO claimed that there was no discussion about whether to accept the draft MoS proposal at today’s consultative meeting.

“We are waiting for the Original draft to come from MHA directly to ENPO,” informed one ENPO official.

The ENPO is likely to issue an official statement on Thursday concerning today’s consultative meeting and also on the draft proposal of Memorandum of Settlement.
