Eastern Sumi Students’ Union 6th Running Trophy underway

Zunheboto: The football tournament began on 5 January with advisor Pukhayi Sumi as the chief guest of the inaugural programme

The Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) 6th Running Trophy is currently underway at Aghunato town public ground, Zunheboto district.

Beginning on 5 January, the football tournament is set to run till 11 January.

The inaugural programme on Thursday started with flag hoisting by the chief guest, Pukhayi Sumi, advisor of Food and Civil Supplies, LMCP, Taxes.

Advisor Sumi, in his speech, encouraged the ESSU to organise cultural games and cultural display events in the days to come and also advised all the GBs to encourage the Union though their contribution. He further encouraged the players to give their best.

Ghuvika Yeptho, president of ESSU, gave the welcome address and greeted the 26 units under Aghunato town. Everyone has a dream of winning but discipline should be the first priority, he stated.

During the programme, a cultural item was presented by Lizutomi Students Union.

The oath taking was led by Kakito Tissica, games & sports secretary, ESSU.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Gloria Phileshe, women coordinator, ESSU, while the invocation was pronounced by Hoketo Aye, pastor AACLF chairman (Aizuto).

The ESSU 6th Running Trophy flame was lighted by Bito Yeptho, former games & sports secretary, ESSU. The benediction was pronounced by Inakali Tuccu, associate pastor women ATBC.

The sport tournament then began with the anthem sung by Khukishe Village Student Union.
