The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K Therie has issued a press release today with regard to the announcement by the Election Committee of India (ECI) that the elections, as mandated in the Constitution, will be held before the present term concludes.

Stating that the announcement “leaves us few days at hand”, Therie pointed out that the CBSE examinations are set to begin from 15 February and if the elections are to be held before this date, “we have 30 days at hand.”

He stated that in the past, elections usually used to be announced 45 days ahead in order to allow people “to prepare their mind for the future five year plan”. However, this opportunity has been “hijacked”, Therie asserted, and also wrote that “people are now in suspense” on whether the elections or the President’s Rule will take place.

“CM expressing willingness to pave the way has been a mirage all along,” alleged the NPCC president, adding that the people “have been running after this mirage for the last 20 years.”

In the press release, Therie further stated that the ECI’s announcement “conveys that the demand of the people for implementation of the agreed solutions has been denied.”

Asserting that the priority of the Congress party is “implementation of agreed solutions” for which “there is no opposition”, the NPCC president concluded by stating: “If BJP Govt does not implement, they are nothing more than a lying party.”
