The Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) Kohima, Nagaland observed the 10th anniversary of the Skill India Mission, a flagship initiative of the Government of India launched on July 15, 2015, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The celebration was held under the aegis of the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, which runs the mission in the region.
According to a press release, the Skill India Mission completed a decade in 2025, empowering the youth with industry-relevant skills, aimed at boosting employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
Stating that this mission dreams of a world where everyone have the chance to reach their full potential, a vision to create opportunities that empower individuals to learn, grow, and succeed in life, it highlighted that through innovative training programs and strong partnerships, they aim to build a society where skills open doors to endless possibilities, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering youth through practical, job-ready skills across sectors towards a future where every person can thrive and contribute to a brighter tomorrow.

It also aims to enhance employability, promote entrepreneurship, and bridge the skill gap in different sectors, it said while highlighting that, “through several initiatives Nagaland is looking into the challenges faced in the field of employment.”
It said that the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship in collaboration with Directorate of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Kohima (Govt. of Nagaland) had established Entrepreneurship Development Centre at the Directorate to work for conducting such EDPs in the state.
Stating that Entrepreneurship Development Programmes contribute towards the development of successful entrepreneurs who establish and manage sustainable businesses, creating job opportunities and economic growth, it said that it plays a vital role in nurturing entrepreneurial talent and fostering the growth of successful businesses.
By providing participants with the necessary skills, resources, and networking opportunities, it said that EDPs contribute to the development of a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.
For creation of such a healthy ecosystem in the state of Nagaland, besides from Skill India Mission program, the Department of DESDE and IIE had play a vital role for our youth in the state imparting training on various section for Skill training such Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme, Entrepreneurship Development Programme, Management Development Programme, Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme.
It also informed that the Directorate of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of Nagaland is committed to train Nagaland Youth in the state of Nagaland to mark the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship to be trained by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship at Entrepreneurship Development Centre Kohima Nagaland.
