The Baptist College Literary Day 2024 under the theme “Educate, Articulate, Liberate” was held on April 5 at Ura Academy, Kohima. Robinson Temsu Jamir, Head of History Department and Convenor of the Inter-Collegiate Debate Competition, Sazolie College, was the Guest Speaker and Debate Critic for the event. The guest speaker emphasized on how we are living in a distressing and yet an interesting time. “Distressing because of the local and global conflicts; yet interesting because of the human capacity to bring about change in the midst of all that. The triumph of humanity remains a hope amongst the chaos,” stated Jamir.
Speaking on the theme, Robinson questioned, “what are we to educate, articulate and liberate?” He went on to emphasize on the idea of education as the cornerstone of every academic journey and it is only through the right education that students equip themselves with the skills and information to navigate the complex world. “The right education should convert to articulation, as it is what bridges knowledge with action. While articulation of ideas should convert into liberation where one can question and reimagine the world around us, enabling rights for all,” remarked Jamir.
The formal program was chaired by Dr. Videkhono Yhokha, Convenor, Literary Committee; Invocation prayer by Chaplain, BCK, Tamreimung Chüsi; welcome note was delivered by Principal, Dr Kekuchol Pusa; and a special number was performed by Baptist College Fellowship.
