The 75th anniversary celebration and inauguration of two newly constructed classrooms at Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Government Higher Secondary School in Seikhazou was held at D.Khel Indoor Stadium, Kohima Village on December 14. The construction of these classrooms was made possible through the PIG-NECTAR-Lighthouse initiative and community mobilization. The event took place under the theme “Pledge for Fulfillment.”
Special guest Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education and SCERT, spoke about the challenging beginnings of the school where he highlighted the school’s origins as a private institution and later transformed into higher secondary. Dr. Yhome also expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from the D.Khel community leaders.
Stating that this progression is a significant milestone for the school, the Advisor acknowledged the considerable effort required to achieve this transformation. The transformative power of education in attaining freedom was emphasised where Dr. Yhome pointed out the rigorous selection process that teachers in government schools undergo to ensure the best educators for students. Dr. Yhome applauded the students for their exceptional academic accomplishments and celebrated their success in producing high-achieving students. “The essential role of education is the foundation for creating a prosperous society,” said the Advisor who encouraged the gathering to work towards advancing the education system and infrastructure.

Dr. Neikiesalie Kire(Nicky Kire) son of Lt. Dr. Neilhouzhii Kire provided a brief overview of his father’s life, stating that Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire was born in 1900 in Kohima village. In 1918, he achieved the milestone of clearing his matriculation from Shillong Government High School, becoming the first Naga matriculate. Following his matriculation, Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire pursued his studies at the Berry White Medical School in Dibrugarh, where he obtained an LMP (Licentiate Medical Practitioner) in 1922. He passed away on May 15, 1969.
Dr. Nicky Kire also expressed his happiness and gratitude for this milestone. While highlighting the success and achievements of the school, Dr. Kire pointed out the urgent requirement for Science streams to be introduced in the higher secondary school located in the village stating that this will be very useful for both the people living in the village and its neighbouring communities.
He urged the relevant department to reexamine the previously submitted proposal for this initiative. Retired Headmistress K. Mary also reflected on her tenure as headmistress at the school.
