Eight schools were declared as tobacco-free schools during a programme organised by NTCP Zunheboto Unit at DC’s office Chamber, Zunheboto on 20th June 2024, informed DIPR.
St. Clare High School Akuluto; Hilto Children Home School, Akuluto; GHSS, Akuluto; Royal School, Akuluto; Unit school, NALTOQA; GPS, NALTOQA; Sparkle School NALTOQA and St. Paul School, NALTOQA were declared tobacco-free schools.
Additionally, eight students’ homes from Woodland Higher Secondary School Zunheboto were declared as Tobacco Free Home and certificates were given away by Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto.

Addressing the programme, the DC expressed his concerned on the rise of tobacco usage, especially among the young group of citizens and the students in particular. Stating that use of tobacco products gradually causes dreadful diseases and ultimately results to deadly cancer and painful deaths, the DC urged the students not to be misled by tobacco advertisements by celebrities, which he expressed, is very unfortunate. He advised the students to be always be aware of things that benefit their health and others which are fatal.
The DC further appealed to NTCP Zunheboto Unit to continue their efficient programmes and to come up with more activities to tackle the menace of tobacco usages in the town and the district with special targets on schools and its surroundings, in order to completely eradicate tobacco products from the district.
