Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam plantation drive held in Auching village, Longleng

Longleng: Indigenous species of tree saplings bearing fruits for humans and animals planted alongside fast growing trees to revive ground water in the region; Lemsachenlok plants more than 7 Lakhs trees in about three months in Longleng District

A mass plantation drive was organised by Longleng Forest Division in collaboration with Lemsachenlok Society and Auching Students’ Union at Auching Village under Longleng District on August 10, 2024, informed DIPR.

Chepe-ü Koza, Forest Range Officer, Longleng Range in her short message highlighted about the mission, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” which was launched by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on World Environment Day 2024. In line with this campaign, she encouraged the planting of trees as a tribute to our Mother and Mother Nature.

She said this campaign was to foster climate change, and also make efforts towards a greener and sustainable tomorrow. She appreciated the Lemsachenlok Society and Auching Students’ Union for their active role in protecting the depleting environment and taking the lead in this plantation drive. Further, she encouraged the local community to tend to the planted trees, carry out timely weeding so that the plantations will thrive well to nurture our environment.

Dr. Y. Nuklu Phom, Team Leader of Lemsachenlok thanked the Longleng Forest Division and Auching Students’ Union for their support in organizing plantation drive on “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, and the Department’s utmost support throughout the various plantation drives carried out by Lemsachenlok Society.

He said four to five indigenous species of tree saplings were planted during the drive with a motive to provide fruits for humans and animals, fast growing trees, and mainly trees to revive ground water in the region. He informed that from the month of May 2024 to this day, Lemsachenlok has planted more than 7 Lakhs trees in Longleng District, and he believes that these plantations will mature and nurture our ecosystem in the long run.

Together 500 saplings were planted along the roadside and in the open areas around the village. A total of 80 participants, comprising of officers and staffs from the Forest department, Lemsachenlok team members, students and elders took active part in the plantation drive.
