An elderly man was reportedly washed away in Ningdangke stream in Chessore under Shamatore district after a sudden heavy downpour in the afternoon on 22nd August 2024. The victim has been identified as Mukhe Yimkhiung, a member of Watsan Committee and a retired pipe fitter of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).

His body was recovered in the evening several hundred metres away from the spot.

Due to loss of life by natural disaster, the Chessore Village Council declared a traditional mourning day on 23rd August according to the traditions and practices of the people. The Village Council has also requested the concern authority for appropriate compensation.
