Electoral Literacy Club at Kohima College hosts voter awareness program for first-time voters

In a bid to promote electoral literacy and engage first-time voters, the Electoral Literacy Club at Kohima College Kohima, in partnership with the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Office Kohima, organized a one-day Voter Awareness and Sensitization Program at the college’s conference hall. The event was held today April 10, informed DIPR.

The program aimed to equip first-time voters with essential knowledge about the electoral process, their rights, responsibilities, and the significance of their participation in the democratic process. With an interactive approach, the initiative sought to bridge the gap in electoral understanding among the youth.

EAC Kohima and Nodal Officer for SVEEP, Limakumla Pongener applauded the collaborative effort and stressed the significance of such initiatives in fostering a culture of informed citizenship. She emphasized the importance of youth participation in the electoral process, stating that empowering the first-time voters with adequate knowledge and awareness is important in nurturing a vibrant democracy.

The event witnessed active participation from students and faculty members alike, Associate Professor Dr. Visiezolie Yashü chaired the program. Principal KCK, Dr. Vitsosie Vüprü said the welcome address, and Campus Ambassador Kikhosou Rume expressed words of gratitude.
