Empowering Girls Through Sports: 1st District Girls Sports Club cum Inter-School Penalty Shootout held in Zunheboto

Zunheboto: Sacred Heart School wins tournament while Sunbeam School and Cornerstone School emerge as 1st and 2nd runners up respectively

Zunheboto District Administration along with District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) launched the 1st District Girls Sports Club cum Inter-School Penalty Shootout on the theme, “Empowering Girls Through Sports” at local ground Zunheboto on 16th September 2023, DIPR informed.

Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS, in his inaugural speech, said that the aim of the tournament was to give opportunities to girls to showcase their talents to the entire society and the world. Giving the examples of Mary Kom, Mirabai Chanu, Hima Das etc. who despite all odds, practiced every day and became celebrated sports champions, he encouraged the participants to also strive for the best and sincerely pursue it to become champions one day.

EAC cum nodal officer DHEW, Viketoulie Metha, in his welcome speech, expressed his gratitude to the schools for involving in the District Girls Sports Club. He said that introducing girls to sports at a tender age will help them take it seriously and even inspire them to choose it as a profession.

Nguvito Awomi, FLS, District Hub for Empowering of Women (DHEW) Zunheboto, explained about the goals and objectives of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) – elimination of gender bias, ensuring girl child survival, ensuring education and community participation of girl child and protection of girl child.

Earlier, the program was chaired by Livi T Yeptho and special song was presented by Nikina K Kiba from Little Spring School.

Sacred Heart School emerged as the champion while Sunbeam School and Cornerstone School emerged as 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.
