The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has cautioned the Government of India to seriously heed the recent claim of Major General (Retd.) ALM Fazlur Rahman about Bangladesh occupying Northeast Indian states if India attacks Pakistan.
In a press statement issue on May 11, the ENPO expressed apprehension considering numerous unresolved issues dragging on for decades through “lukewarm and divisive policies of the GoI”.
“Under such circumstances, the region might tend to succumb to such aggressive stand unless the GoI redefine its policies. Instead, GoI must uphold its utmost principle “Unity in diversity” in strengthening the people of the nation through liberty, equality and fraternity as envisaged in the preamble of the Indian Constitution,” stated the ENPO.
The Organisation further suggested that there should be a common concord of all ethnic races of the North-eastern States in resolving and framing the strategy in safeguarding its ancestral and traditional territory of the concerned tribes/races.
The ENPO commended the pro-active role of the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, in what it considered as “displaying his dynamic and bold leadership skills to safeguard the internal security of Assam”. The Organisation was also of the view that such strategic stance should be replicated by all North Eastern states. “The ENPO places its utmost faith upon Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma-ji in flushing out all illegal immigrants considering the fact that state of Assam being the epi-center of accumulated immigrants in the region where terror activities originates,” it stated.

The organisation further applauded the Governor and Chief Minister of Nagaland for the state-wide call for vigilance and national security in a significant demonstration of unity and of patriotism where the State government along with various stakeholders had unanimously resolved to express its solidarity with the Indian Armed forces, the national leadership, and reaffirming the State’s commitment to national security and unity.
“The ENPO onces again asserts that both the Central and the State Government must ensure in neutralizing any form of terror or atrocities inflicted upon to any Indian citizndos while carrying out their combat strategy had massacred 14 innocent youths at point blank on the pretext of war against terror at Oting. It is also to remind that both the Pahalgam and Oting tragedies reflect a lack of robust intelligence and strategic operational planning. The Government of Indian must ensure that such negligence is not repeated in the North-eastern States of India,” it further stated.
