The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) has relaxed its 26 August 2022 resolution to abstain from participating in any central or state election, a statement from the organisation said on Saturday.

“In faith with the Union Home Minister and the MHA, Gol, ENPO relaxes the August 26, 2022 resolution in the interest of fair and peaceful conduct of election in the state,” it stated.

The organisation informed that the decision was made “in due consultation with its constituent tribal Bodies and Frontal Organizations” at an executive meeting held in Dimapur on Saturday, following the request from Ministry of Home Affairs to review its resolution and after receiving assurance from Amit Shah, Union Home Minister on 2 February.

“The assurance was that, a solution as mutually agreed will be reached after following the due process and will be implemented after completion of the election process,” ENPO explained.

The apex organisation of the eastern Nagaland tribes further requested “all its citizens to cooperate with the government in the conduct of election and not create any law and order problem within ENPO jurisdiction.”

ENPO is in talks with the MHA regarding its demand for Frontier Nagaland or a separate state comprising 6 districts of the state – Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire, Longleng, Shamator and Longleng.

On hearing the positive development, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, took to Twitter, to express his gratefulness to ENPO for relaxing its resolution.
“I am grateful for their positive gesture reaffirming ENPO’s commitment to democratic processes,” he tweeted.
