The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has submitted an appeal to the Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland for the immediate implementation of the NH-202 (Kohima-Mokokchung via Eastern Nagaland) two-lane road project. The appeal, dated July 15, 2025, highlights the long-standing neglect of this portion of the highway connecting Eastern Nagaland.

According to the ENSF, despite similar two-lane road projects being completed in other regions of Nagaland like the Kohima to Meluri stretch of NH-202, the portion connecting Eastern districts has remained abandoned for over a decade.

The federation emphasized that requisite surveys, clearances, and formalities for this project have reportedly been completed.

The ENSF pointed out that the deplorable condition of this road causes significant hardship to the people of Eastern Nagaland, particularly during the monsoon season.  It said incessant rainfall leads to frequent mudslides and landslides, completely obstructing the route, disrupting inter-district connectivity, poses severe risks to commuters, hampers economic activities, and isolates entire communities.

The federation noted that the people of Eastern Nagaland have long endured developmental disparities and neglect compared to other parts of Nagaland. The continued inaction on this project has led to deep hardship and reinforced a sense of marginalization among the people of Eastern Nagaland, it added.

In light of these issues, the ENSF has urged the Deputy Chief Minister to intervene for the immediate commencement and completion of the NH-202 two-lane construction work in the Eastern sector without further delay.
